r2p is an exciting global technology company providing solutions for the public transport sector, combining the flexibility and creativity of a small company with the reach and stability of a large organization. The UK company develops a fully featured and successful real-time public transport information system involving everything from tracking vehicles to distributing information via web applications, mobile apps and big data reports. We are looking for a backend PHP developer to create new features and contribute to the overall design within our rapidly growing tracking application. Our core technologies for web development are Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP deployed which we are currently rearchitecting into the Laravel framework.

Your Tasks
  • We are building our development team up to deliver the new exciting international work we have won and the backend developer role is key to delivering this.
  • Although the role focuses on the backend, you will become familiar over time with the complete end-to-end operation of our system including the real time tracking data flowing in through to the system and the apps, pages, apis and reports providing data to our customers – bus companies, bus users, data aggregators and app developers.
Your Profile
  • You will be self-reliant and creative.
  • You will know how to provide a suite of apis, develop an access control strategy, attach to 3rd party data sources and be able to get data into our system in a well structured design.
  • You will be able to build server-side daemons and tasks for manipulating incoming data (for example, raw tracking data), streaming into the database and be able to produce useful reports and analysis.
  • You will be experienced in most of the technologies we use which, at minimum, includes Linux, Apache, Mysql, PHP and MVC Frameworks preferably Laravel.

Your Qualifications
  • An interest in or experience with transport and tracking project would be advantageous.
  • Also relevant would be experience with big data reporting engines like Elasticsearch which we use for archiving to and reporting on our large historical dataset.
  • You will be able to draw on your experience to spot areas in a system which can benefit from redesign.
  • You should love within an hour of our Crawley office to enable a smooth workflow.
  • Requirement to have existing UK passport or work permit
