Monday 4th December, 2017, saw Nimbus Journey Information launch their innovative imedia system on buses around Sheffield to help visually impaired travellers on their journey.
Nimbus – specialising in creating and implementing technology to improve the public transport information for all users – has now installed their equipment in 37 buses across the First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach Yorkshire networks as part of the Better Bus Area Fund programme. This technology includes bespoke screens and speakers to announce the next stop on their route, to ensure public transport is accessible for everyone.
Alongside other major bus routes across Sheffield, this three-year pilot scheme has been trialled on Service 120, one of the main routes in Sheffield City Centre, serving key areas like Royal Hallamshire Hospital, in and around the city centre, and the main Sheffield University campus.
Russell Gard, Managing Director of Nimbus, is excited about the pilot scheme in Sheffield and the opportunities this presents: “We are delighted to partner with First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach Yorkshire, two of the largest public transport providers in the region. We firmly believe in making public transport accessible for everyone, so the screens and speakers we have installed will help make journeys more enjoyable and stress-free for every passenger.
“We look forward to working together for the next 3 years, and we hope passengers travelling in and around Sheffield City Centre will benefit immensely from the technology we have installed”.
Earlier this year, Nimbus was taken over by the r2p Group, a German-based transit solutions provider who already operates in 45 countries worldwide. Bjarne Nielsen, Managing Director of r2p Tracking, is immensely proud of the partnership with Nimbus, and is enthused about the prospect of working with two of the largest travel providers in Yorkshire: “Since our partnership began in June 2017, Nimbus and r2p have gone from strength to strength. We have been able to offer travellers technology that’s second-to-none, and we have helped make journeys more independent for everyone. This partnership is a step in the right direction for Nimbus and r2p as we continue to provide exceptional technology across public transport networks in and around the UK.”
The rapidly growing r2p Group – headquartered in Flensburg, Germany – operates internationally in 45 countries with subsidiaries in Denmark, Brazil and England. With a silent partnership in Taiwan, a sales office in the Czech Republic, and local manufacturing in India, r2p takes pride in being a truly global company.
