The new React System is an assistive technology that triggers information displays and beacons to make audible announcements. A user carries a device – either a fob or a bluetooth smart device – which communicates with bus stops and beacons (for example), and makes them 'say' what they are showing on the visual screen, so that anyone with special accessibility needs can be more independent on their bus, tram and train journeys. The system can also be programmed to give more detailed information even if it is not shown on the display.
The React System – Enabling Independent Travel
The React System works via a fob or an app for smart devices to trigger announcements. The adaptable trigger technology, the ‘talking sign’, can be easily integrated into any existing Real Time Passenger Information sign. When close to these signs, a fob or smart device, with the relevant app installed, activates Real Time Information messages that help the user determine where they are and when their bus or tram or train will arrive.
The React System can be complemented with React Interactive, a data service to connect The React System with other city systems and public transport networks. The REACT product range also includes a full manned two-end journey support service (React Interactive Total Care) and a state-of-the-art beacon system (React Wayfinder) to share relevant information with passengers with increased accessibility needs where visual displays aren’t used.
